Phrae's most impressive temple sits on a hillside with many teak trees. Its 33 meter-tall Chiang Saen-style chedi houses holy relics of Buddha -- the bones of his left elbow and strands of his hair. The chedi was built of bricks and stucco and covered with bright brass sheets. The name of the temple – choe hae --refers to fine silk woven in southern China, which was initially used to wrap around the chedi.
