Oil Pump Jack
by dawn

this is the oil pump jack just up the road--actually we have several in
different directions. In behind it is a golf course, hence the rise of the
land on the right. I was trying to do a silhouette but still manage to
retain some detail--in the original you can actually see detail in the pump
but either way I guess it doesn't really matter. As you can see the sun was
about to set--it was gone 5 minutes afterwards and dark not long after that.
I got stuck in the snow and barely made it out without turfing my camera.
Then I hit a deep patch of snow without warning and went flying. I'm NOT
GOING BACK.

Excellent shot dawn. Great composition and complete feel of realizingly cold day.

As Gina said, no need to go back, it's a very good composition with detail, even the snow looks cool.....

Love the sun...did you use a star filter for that effect? I like the DOF...the whole image is really clean and very well done.
Guest 25-Jan-2009 15:40
Nice shot Dawn, but could you go back tonight and try the shot again with less DOF. Maybe it would be better with the background blurred more. The trees on the horizon are distracting.

I think it's a nice image. I like the contrast of the "flaming" sun against the cold snow.

Hard-earned shot, but worth it! I love the solar flare!

I really think this is a very good shot, Dawn; the crisp blue sky and the wonderful solar flare, it all makes for a neat image.
