NGC 6559 and Friends

San Diego, CA

NGC6559 (lower left), NGC4685 (center right), IC1275 (center left), and IC1274 (upper left).
Imaged through Celestron 80ED 80mm refractor, at f3.8 with Antares 0.5x focal reducer,
Schuler Ha and OIII line filters, and DSI Pro II. Guided with DSI-C through 8” LX90 at f10.

Ha: 20 x 7.5 minutes (150 minutes total exposure)

OIII: 9 x 7.5 minutes (67.5 minutes total exposure)

Colors merged using Steve Cannistra’s bicolor method, mapping Ha-sG-OIII, where sG = Ha multiplied by OIII.

Very bright Moon in close proximity caused much more contrast loss than I anticipated. Target dropping toward the city lights in the southwestern horizon also caused some seeing challenges. Under darker skies, this amount of exposure time would yield some spectacular views of this subject!

other sizes: small medium original auto
