Top Turret & Flight Engineer's Area
I have just climbed up the aluminum ladder from the front hatch access area and am standing in the flight engineer's area, which is a few inches lower and immediately aft of the cockpit. Combined, the flight engineer's area and the cockpit are referred to as the flight deck. Also included in the flight deck is the top turret, which is to the right of the camera. The base of the top turret, which the gunner stands on, is partially seen at the bottom left corner.
The green-painted steel square stock at the top-center of the photo is part of the flight engineer's fold-up seat. The black checkerboard mat at the base of the ladder is the floor of the access area. The light shining on the mat is coming through the open front hatch and the bombardier and navigator's nose compartment. The red webbing seen in the top left corner is used to restrict entry into the cockpit during walk-through tours.
