Yulduz Usmanova was born and growing up in Margilan in the Fergana Valley, and by the time she was a teenager she was singing at wedding parties. Later she transferred to Tashkent to study music at the music academy.
Yulduz music interprets the mystic feelings of Central Asia.
Yulduz is tremendously popular amongst the women in Central Asia. They know all the lyrics of her songs, which I noticed when I was at her concert in 1999 at the football stadium in Margilan, her birth town.
After her performance I was able to visit her and take some pictures of her and her mother and other relatives.
