I'm half expecting a dead fish or oil covered bird partly submerged in this sludge.
Good camera work.

I almost expect The Creature From The Black Lagoon
to come popping out.

It is true, this has a menacing air.
Very good, also because it is so restrained.

Absolutely fabulous. All kind of mysteries in this one.

You were there, Nancy. You remember its beauty. I don't. I see only its dangers here, because of the choices you made. Such is the nature of expressive photography. You chose to ignore what was "gloriously beautiful and peaceful," and instead remind us that what "lies beneath can rip us apart." It indeed is "all in the way you look at it." I would go beyond that and say that Nancy deliberately wanted to make us see the dangers here. Lakes can kill and this one is particularly full of ominous patterns.

The incongruity of this image is that it was taken while shooting down onto the surface of a gloriously beautiful and peaceful lake in Nashville. I was captivated by the way the light and shadows danced around the floating branch before tumbling down the spillway dam to the natural creek below - reminders that though the surface may be beautiful and inviting, what lies beneath can rip you apart.

Nancy -- it is critical that this compelling image be seen in its entirety. Resize it so that it does not have to scrolled to be fully revealed. (About 1000 pixels wide would work well.) I made a smaller version of it, and seeing it whole, rather than scrolled, had tremendous impact -- the water seems to teem with threat. There are eyes, faces, and a branch that diagonally explodes upon the pond with radiating energy. By converting it to black and white, you abstract it further, making the pond into a labyrinth of coiled dangers.
