In 2008 there were a handful of shooting moments that were spiritual. They tend to happen when I unxpectantly come upon a special scene and have the right gear to capture what my mind sees. This was my December gift-- a double store window art installation at the Fabric Museum in Philadelphia, PA. The location was right next to the window where I took the “uninvited” photo. The piece was installed in the 2 entry display windows that face one another. In the left window display is the riveting light sculpture “homeless lamps” by Ivan Navarro. The piece is a bunch of fluorescent lights shaped into a full sized shopping cart. In the right window is a TV that plays a video showing the cart being set up and turned on in different city street locations. There was a haunting song that played through speakers in the entryway that accompanied the video.
I walked by late at night and had the art to myself. I spent close to 20 minutes in the entryway taking shots; the whole time the song and video replayed. For me the experience was a great gift that I get to keep with this photograph. To make a light painting I did another flashlight SP. The cart lighting was extreme due to all the lights that were on so I am there minimally. I searched and found the video on You Tube. Here is the link should you want to see and hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aAFhXOnZPw&feature=related. As I walked away into the night my back was killing me from a long day but there was a big smile upon my face.
I share this story with you in the hopes that you also find your own such moments. Merry Xmas. Bill
