Coumeenoole Beach

R559, Slea Head Drive, Coumeenoole South, Dingle Penninsula view map

Coumeenoole Beach, located on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland, is known as one of the most dramatic and photographed locations along the Slea Head Drive.
The beach lies nestled between steep cliffs and offers a beautiful view of the Blasket Islands. The golden sand is particularly visible at low tide; at high tide, the beach almost completely disappears beneath the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Swimming is strictly prohibited here due to the extremely strong and dangerous undertows.

The beach became world-famous through the Oscar-winning film Ryan's Daughter (1970).
