Pelican occidentalis
It is a great joy to watch these birds gracefully gliding for hundreds
of yards no more than a couple of inches above the water. They often
“surf” on the wind being driven before a wave. This one “rode” a wave
into Arena Cove on a stormy day during a very high tide. Then it
veered off as the wave crashed against the cliff.
