The Hawk Owl was perched in the same tree late in the day for about an hour (from what I was told as I got there late).
After everyone had left, the owl flew off its perch and headed to the right and downward. I thought about following it but there were too many shrubs and branches in the way. It was snowing and the light was getting dim.
As I was heading back to the main trail the Hawk Owl suddenly flew in fast and low to the ground on the right. Its wings were vertical to the ground at one point as it manouevered around some trees. The owl landed in the perch pictured above.
I then saw it reach down as to bite something. I couldn't make it out at the time but it appears to be a rodent when zoomed in on the monitor. You can see something dark at chest level in the photo above. The owl flew off again perhaps to cache the just caught prey.
