12-DEC-2008 Helen Betts

9th Place (tie)
Flat Tire

by Helen Betts

Washington, D.C.

Well, I thought I wouldn't be able to participate as I am heading home to San Francisco to bury my father, but while waiting for our flight, I knew we were surrounded by wheels, although it was hard to get a clear shot to any of them. In fact, I had never really looked at the wheels of aircraft; I expected them to be gigantic, but found they are pretty small things, just in large numbers. Not the best image for a variety of obvious reasons (sorry), but thought I'd enter it anyway. And luckily this wasn't our plane; I sure thought the tire in front looked a bit low (and I'm a very nervous flyer!).

Helen, I never really noticed the tires on aircraft before...good idea for this theme and interesting that smaller but greater numbers are used. Well composed. I'm sorry to hear about your father. Photo Bug

I really like the composition with the engine and tires, which really look used very much.

Nervous flyer!!! A world traveler like you? I find that very surprising.
Fine example of the theme. Glad you were able to participate. Condolences on your father's passing. ---deb

I prefer the smaller wheels in larger numbers. Spreads the weight and the risk better. I hope your flight was smooth. Thanks for entering.
