Date harvest, Tozeur, Tunisia, 2008

This man is standing barefoot in a palm tree, high above the ground. He is gathering dates in a Sahara oasis, just outside Tozeur. He works with utter confidence in bare feet. He shows no sign of fear or caution. He grasps the palm frond, knowing that it will not break and send him to his death. Although it may appear that I am up in the tree with him, I am not. I am on the ground, and use a 200mm telephoto focal length to bring him into close range.

Thanks for noting the composition here, Roland. I used the palm fronds to create a pattern of rhythmic repetition, which draws the eye to the man's hand. The frond at lower right offers a diagonal that leads to the man's body. Meanwhile, the stubs of the chopped off fronds at left echo the placement of the man's foot, and the subject's off-center placement creates an imbalance that underscores the dangerous nature of the perilous task itself.

Incredible image showing just how people work to fulfill others needs.
The composition of this image is excellent. V

Without the bare foot, the picture does not work, Alina. As for the stuntman job, I am sure he would jump at the chance (pun intended)!

Phil you perfectly captured the bare food of the worker. By the way he could be a film stuntman.
