We stopped to watch a farming family thrash rice stalks in the first stage
of separating the rice grains from their plants. With rice being their
primary food source, rice growing and production is a major occupation.

Most Bhutanese families are involved in farming and livestock and it is
common to see men and women working together in the fields
accompanied by their children. Children learn to work at an early age.
