Margaret - great gallery of a fascinating area. This particular corner, and the stretch along the river that leads to it, definitely get my vote as the coldest place in Europe!
Several years ago now, after a wonderful lunch at Romolo's one New Year's Day, we recklessly spurned the waiter's kind offer to call us a cab as it wasn't a long walk back to our hotel from Trastevere. But by the time we'd got to here the sleet that started immediately the door closed behind us had soaked through our coats and chilled us to the bone. We'd not grasped that there would be no buses or trams that afternoon and waited and waited until a taxi appeared which, thankfully, whisked us two drowned rats back to our hotel. We really should have waited by their fire - thanks for the memory! Peter
