Wonderful! It looks like it could be a distant cousin of Melbob's tree :). Sycamores have been introduced throughout California and do quite well in just about every climate. Cindy

It does look like some variety of sycamore, although I'm not sure what grows in S. California. Here in New England they are beautiful in every season because of their size and branching limbs and especially the colors, designs, and textures of their bark. Thank you for sharing this with us.

It seems to have a similar texture to a eucalyptus (gum tree... down under) but no doubt an entirely different (broad and soft) leaf structure. Great looking face.

Thanks CJ. I think it's a sycamore. There's a nearby park that's full of them. The trees grow at weird angles and have a lot of personality. ~dtallakson

Funny face on this one DT! Is this a eucalyptus? They seem to have great textured bark and knobby areas like this. CJ
