At the four cardinal points of the compass, surrounding the chedi, are four wiharns that contain images of Buddha in various postures. To the north is this 26 feet-high statue of the standing Buddha in the Sukhothai style. The hands and feet are from a stone figure found at Sukhothai – Thailand’s first capital -- around 1915. The body was cast in bronze in Bangkok. Buddhist devotees are giving offerings of flowers, lighting candles, and rubbing gold leaf on smaller Buddha statues. Some of the ashes of King Mongkut are interred in the base of the statue.
