What Glyn said, and... I have a feeling that when the subject is humble, other things in the image become really important: the composition of course, colour, even pale and subtle colour becomes central. I like the colours here a lot. In this image that patch of water and its sediment is interesting visually but ties right in to the nature of this healing plant.

Ah! Long time since I've seen and aloe ... my bromelia has the same way of catching water.
John's challenge is going to be most interesting ... we see humble things ... but when we get the camera ... will we be seeing them humbly? How is the subject's humility affected by the way WE post-process, the way we 'see' them.
What I'm getting at with this picture is that you did not go for the 'popping' post processing that you did with that fantastic red desert you did in 'still life' and have thereby avoided giving it regal, iconic ... NON-humble qualities.
Personallly, I think you've latched onto some 'essence of humble' but it's to early in the challenge for me to make full sense of it.
