This floating water weed, which has a beautiful flower, is not native to Africa. It thrives in disturbed eutrophic waterways where it creates ideal conditions for breeding mosquitoes & snails -thus helping to spread diseases such as Bilharzia & Malaria. Whilst undoubtedly attractive it should be avoided as an ornamental pond plant in the hotel gardens in case it should "escape".
