Over the past year and 30-plus trips into the desert to see the horses, I have learned that individual horses have distinct personalities. One of the big stallions that I call Duke always lays down in the waterhole, thrusts his muzzle into the water and then rolls over onto his back. He has done this every time he gets into the waterhole.
