The surgeon didn't get as much tumor out as hoped due to excessive bleeding. He stopped the surgery short because of fear of hitting an artery. The tumor that was reducted from his nose in August is now larger than it was before the surgery. He didn't attempt to remove the teeth because of the possibility of breaking his jaw. His jaw is comprised mostly of tumor and if it does fracture there isn't anyway to repair it since there isn't any healthy bone to attach plates to.
We hope to be in a room tomorrow and the plan is to x-ray the jaw tomorrow also to see if the pain is from a possible fracture or from a bad tooth. Because the pain is intense when Brian yawns he has pretty much ruled out a tooth related problem.
We're in ICU and Brian is in considerable pain but resting.
This picture was taken last March during our stay here at Vanderbilt when he got his trach.
