I see competence and the ability to work well with others as being two fundamental requirements of any organizational office holder. It is an unforgivable waste of the time of every other member of that organization when these two abilities are lacking in other members, even though they be the nicest people in the world.
Well-meaning people in the wrong jobs seems always to have been at the base of every issue that we have had for the past three years causing the Board to run at about 30% of capacity and has directly led to the loss of so many experienced, talented members. Finally, after years of frustration, I have high hopes for the incoming 2009 Board and hope to serve on it.
Regarding the proposed amendments, etc.:
It seems to me that some of these amendments are akin to putting parking regulations in the Constitution of the United States. Many such changes belong in our Standing Rules which are easily amended at Board meetings.
Frankly, I don't see where most of this kind of minutia has a place in our club at all. I prefer my minutia on a cue sheet. Follow me to sanity.... and fun.
If reelected to my current post of Recording Secretary, it will be my pleasure to serve our Club for another year of what I hope has been the strong, (certainly loud) obfuscation-stifling voice of order, propriety, civility and positive focus on benefiting the Membership over all else, while never losing sight of what I enjoy the most: having great days out on the road cycling with my friends!
I point with pride to the many recommendations by my fellow candidates to return me to office. Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to serve you all. It has been a pleasure to do it.
Sincerely,
John T. Chiarella, Recording Secretary
