On October 25, 1906, high winds and waves drove the four-masted English sailing ship "Peter Iredale" onto Clatsop Beach which is now part of Fort Stevens State Park on the northern coast of Oregon. There were no casualties and a Naval Court ruled that the crew was not at fault for the grounding. Rusting remnants of the wreck lie on the beach today (see other photo in this gallery).
