replica

Within the Vassar College Chapel is this replica of the east doors of the famous Florentine Baptistry. The original is the work of Lorenzo Ghiberti who worked on them from 1425 to 1452 which coincides with the start of the Italian Renaissance. Michaelangelo himself gave them the nickname "Gates of Paradise" and they are generally recognized as one of the preeminent artworks of all history.
There are various replicas around including the Grace Cathedral doors in San Francisco (below) and at the Baptistry itself since the originals had to be brought indoors in 1990. They are now preserved in nitrogen at Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Florence.
