Family portrait, Khmu village in Nale District. On a survey accompanied by two Lao guides, we arrrived in this (name unknown) Khmu village on top of a mountain. We were told no farang (=Westerner) had ever visited the village. The people were so intrigued by the images showing on the back of my digital camera, the headman told us many families had no photographs at all, and would like me to make a family portrait of each household. In the morning I did that. A month later the 6x8 prints, laminated, were sent by guide down the river and up the mountain, back to that same village.
