Although the ride over to Paris was dreadful due to the cramped seating (ten hours in
the "economy" seats with a full flight), jet lag was negligible. Coming home to the
United States was a different matter! We'd been awake for almost 24 hours when we made
our connecting flight in Houston for the last leg back to Denver. Talk about exhaustion!
Yikes! We were actually quite lucky, however, as Hurricane Ike hit Houston less than
a week later. Even weeks after the hurricane struck, many residents in Houston were
still without power, and nearby Galveston, Texas, was devastated by the hurricane.
