First launch, Space Shuttle Columbia

The Space Shuttle Columbia leaves a vertical contrail one minute after its first historic launch from Kennedy Space Center on April 12, 1981. It flew 28 missions, its last ending in tragedy when it broke up on re-entry over Texas on February 1, 2003.
