South east side of the Ali'iolani Hale.
Kamehameha V commissioned the construction of this building which he originally intended to be his palace. The building was completed after the death of Kamehameha V under the reign of David Kalakaua who had plans to build his own palace ('Iolani) across the street. Kalakaua named the building Ali'iolani Hale in honor of the late king. Ali'iolani Hale means house of the heavenly King and now serves as the Hawaii Supreme Court Building.
