Before we had phones:
With the Jewish Holiday of Rosh Hashanah approaching, here's a tradition to celebrate the Jewish New Year.
Rosh Hashanah (29.9-1.10.2008) is the first of the High Holidays, the most solemn days of the Jewish year, and is characterised by the blowing of the shofar, a trumpet made from the horn of a ram. Its sound is intended to awaken the listener from his or her "slumber" and alert them to the coming judgment.
This selection of shofar was blown by Eli for the special occasion of London Open House Day in the New West End Synagogue in Bayswater, London.
This picture is also #05 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at www.100Strangers.com.
