Zelus luridus Assassin Bug

Assassin Bug (Zelus luridus) - - Location: Nrth Billerica, Massachusetts, USA

There are 7 species of Zelus and all are slender, lanky, assassins found on foilage, occasionally
attracted to lights. They have sticky hairs on their front legs to hold their prey better.
Assassin bugs prey upon other insects which they pierce with their hollow mouthparts which they
fold under their body. This particular species will fold up its legs and fall to the ground if
disturbed. This species overwinters as a nymph.
