As exposure time is increased, the fainter outer corona becomes more visible, but the brighter inner corona becomes overexposed by the camera. No camera, film or digital, can capture the wide range of brightnesses in an eclipse in a single exposure photograph. This was my first eclipse using a digital camera, and I noticed the exposure range with the digital is less than with film.
