Rathtrevor Beach Trail

Sob, Sob, went out today and took my Canon 16-35mm f/2.8.L Don't use the lens much and after about 4 shots bingo the auto focus decided to stop working. tried it on my husbands camera and was the same so I knew it was the lens not the camera. just a few clunks so switched the lens to manual and I was surprised to find it was no problem using the lens and focusing manually just a small finger movement on the focus ring and right in focus, even got a beep and light. I am debating if I should send it to Canon for repair as it is out of warranty or just work with it in manual. I took 60 images and everyone was in focus using the lens in manual. It is wide-angle I use for landscapes so there is always lots of time.

Stick to manual if you can keep them like this beauty,Jess. *
For general landscape work, the easiest way to ensure front to back sharpness is to focus on infinity and don't go below f7.

Beautiful compostion with great dof. v

For the kind of work as in this image, manual focus is the way to go. Usually using hyperfocal distance. Of course it is always nice to have the lens fixed.

Superb image, Jess. Very sharp well composed. V. I would call canon support. You might also try cleaning your contacts on both the lens and the camera.

Beautifully composed landscape with an inviting feeling. I am sorry about your lens but your manual focus worked very well. Maybe you don't need auto focus!

A lovely composition, with beautiful light! You did well with MF, and are right about using it for landscapes, but I would call Canon anyway and see what they say..

Beautiful scene, nice perspective.
So sorry to hear about the lens. I know it can cost a lot to have it fixed. You have done great with the manual focus. I think I would call first and ask up front how much it would cost. V
