Ray

Dolan Springs Az.

You past them on the highway or freeways sometimes see them reflected at night on stretches of desert a memorial of someone friends or family member sometimes you wonder about the rest of the story.
On May 6, 2007 I was returning to Las Vegas on I-15 , I passed a long distance cyclist his bike loaded down with saddle bags and a knapsack/bag on the back, he had long hair and I hesitated I was going to stop for I had a feeling that it was Ray.
But for what ever reason I decided if I was wrong that the meeting would be uncomfortable for us both. That was the last time I saw Ray alive and the first time I had seen him in over ten years
I knew Ray since the late 70’s, and kept in and out of touch with him and his sister. Ray was an environmentalist concerned about so many things and knowledgeable of much more than I in many disciplines. A cross country cyclist who had traversed many parts of the United States
The next day Ray was killed near Dolan Springs Az. while riding further in to Arizona you can’t take back the moment or wonder what if. You can remember the moments from the past, a word here or a trip taken, a laugh shared.
This cross planted by his sister and friends at the location of his death. Tells you how he lived simply, intelligently and above all with purpose. If you head south on Hwy 93 towards Kingman you’ll see this cross.

Life is full of "what ifs"; this one is touching.
