A Nature Lesson With A Brachonid Wasp

Texas Canyon, Dragoon, AZ

This species/sub-species of Wasp stings their prey, lays their eggs on it, and then buries the
prey where the larvae will feed upon it while they develop.
Here are three images showing the Wasp digging a hole, dragging a Katydid into the hole, and
then covering the hole over with dirt! She dragged that Katydid so quickly, I got one shot.
I was so glad that I stopped to watch this! A close up Nature Lesson! Looks like dirty work too.

Nice nature lesson, Carol. I've seen these in action and they waste no time in getting their cache underground. Amazingly strong creatures. This series reminds me of my tarantula / pepsis wasp encounter. Well done. V.

It's amazing that it happens to fast. I'd have thought it would take her an hour to do that. Fascinating shots!
