First, leisurely trip to Barton. It is part of my after-work loop, or “Feierabendschleife” (we Germans have a word for everything!). Soon I notice lots of lycra-clad cyclists on racers coming the opposite way – this is because of the prevailing wind from the southwest or west, and after half an hour of cycling into the wind, I wish I’d done the same. Crossing under the A1 into Melmersby, no time for a break just yet!
