These are real rare birds. They pass through Thailand early on as they continue their flight on to mainly Sumatra but also other places in the Southern Hemisphere of Asia.
I tried to approach them on foot but they wouldn't let me any closer then 100m before they'd take off.
I suppose they don't see any humans on their breeding grounds in Northern Siberia.
