Royal Caribbean's fourth ship, Song of America, entered service in 1982. By that time Song of Norway and Nordic Prince had already been lengthened by 90 feet each, and demand was such that RCCL opted for a new vessel rather than lengthening Sun Viking.
Wartsila-built Song of America was a sort of mid-sized bridge between the original smaller triplets and the enormous Sovereign-class to come. She sported RCCL's first 360-degree Viking Crown Lounge cantilevered on her funnel, and cabins grouped in the forward part of the ship away from engine vibration. In 1999 she was sold to Airtours becoming Sunbird under Sun Cruises; she was later acquired by Thomson Cruises and renamed Thomson Destiny.
