Patrick Henry bought this farm in 1770 and lived here until 1777 when he became the first Governor of Virginia. Dolley Madison lived or visited here, as well. It was also here that Henry's wife slipped into mental illness and had to be confined in a small basement apartment, where she died in 1775.
