The fortress was attacked and conquered many times in its history.
The Turks used to call Kalemegdan - a "hill for thinking".
The first parts of today Belgrade date from the time of neolith,
and the word Belgrade is made by word "Singidunum" (named by the Celts) and means "White city" (literally Belgrade or in Serbian Beograd (beo - white, grad- city).
