The building of San Phra Phrom -- the Erawan Shrine -- was prescribed by spirit doctors back in the mid-1900s to stop a series of tragedies related to the building of the old Erawan Hotel. It seemed to work, so now the shrine remains at the much newer Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel.
