This small group of galaxies consists of the Messier objects M65, (upper right), M66 (lower right) and the edge-on galaxy NGC 3628 (left). The cluster is also known as the Leo Trio because it is located in the constellation Leo. The galaxies are a popular target for amateur telescopes. I took the photo with a Nikon D300, a Sigma 500mm f/4.5 lens, and a 1.4x teleconverter. It is a combination of 6 exposures of 5 minutes each, and were combined and layered in Photoshop. It was taken at Ottawa Lake in the southern unit of Kettle Moraine State Park in southeast Wisconsin on March 27, 2009. A special thanks to my good friend Paul Gruener for his expert photo advice and for sharing a power accessory with me when my power supply proved inadequate.
