Posted three images of the Loon Chick at 5 weeks old today. Click "Next", "Next" to see the other two.
From the bare spot on its back, one can see that the chick is now starting to loose its fluffy down making way for its regular feathers. On this day, I first fond the chick fishing about 100 meters from where Mom and Dad were feeding; however, as soon as I approached with my boat, Mom immediately swam towards her young one and stayed with it. Note, that though I've seen the young in fishing mode (head under water and/or diving) for some weeks now, I've yet to see it catch a fish.
