18-JUL-2008 Henry's Lily

Lilium henryi

Lilium henryi was introduced to western cultivation in the late 1800's by plant
explorer Augustine Henry, from plants he collected on limestone cliffs in China's
Hubei Province. It has long been one of our favorite of the Chinese lilies, producing
5' tall stalks, topped in August with dozens of pendent, medium-orange, recurved 3"
flowers, each in need of a shave. Hardy to zone 5.
