This bright comet delighted the world, and was easily for many weeks by anyone who bothered to look up in the northern sky during the spring of 1997. Even before the rise of digital photography, it was a popular target and could be imaged by almost anyone with a good camera and a tripod. This photo was taken from a housing development in Breckenridge, Colorado, on April 1, 1997, using a Nikon F3, Fujicolor 400 film and a 50mm f/2 lens. The exposure was about a minute. the orange glow on the trees is from distant sodium vapor streetlights.
