Manze's pie & mash

My all time favourite meal !
Manze's meat pie and mash with liquor (parsley sauce) has to be the most delicious mouth watering meal ever. Lots of vinegar and pepper on top.
When I was little, my friends and I would go to either the Bakers arms, or Walthamstow High Street, East London shop to sit in one of the wooden booths with our plate of food. Sawdust on the floor, bright tiles on the walls, the BEST !
Now, there is only one of those shops left, (plus another in Islington I hear) and as my Husband was passing through Walthamstow, he brought some home for me, we won't have to go that way again, so probably my last Manze's !
I savoured every bite.
You can't take the Londoner out of the girl !!!!

Food that brings back childhood memories is the best. Nicely done.

Arsenic & Old Lace - those ladies must have had a son
Chris; good thinking to do a little experimenting; sounds like a great choice

Looks very tasty, Pat. Was it an eel pie or meat?
Dan Chusid20-Jul-2008 08:52
Okay, you've sold me on it.
...and I'll split the Eel Pie for dessert.
Dan Chusid20-Jul-2008 08:50
Not quite sold on that.

Can I get a Coke for starters?

There's still a Manzie's at Chapel Market in Islington its run by the same people as Walthamstow, the girls alternate between shops. As you say its the best. I agree with your Dad double pie mash a meal fit for a king.
Love Joan
