Hakka were agriculture-based Chinese that migrated to Hong Kong in 18th century.
The cages were used for keeping, transporting and selling chickens.
Because the house was small, the cages were normally kept outside their houses.

The cages were made from Bamboo.
Bamboo is widely used in Asia, from fences, walking sticks, furniture, chopsticks,
hats to musical instruments.
