The Owl Nebula (M-97) and the galaxy M-108, in the constellation Ursa Major, were photographed with a Nikon F3, a 500mm f/4 lens and a 1.4x teleconverter from a light-polluted back yard in Whitefish Bay, Wis. in late March, 2006. An IDAS light-pollution supression filter was used. The image is a combination of four frames, exposed from times between 20 and 30 minutes. Stars down to 15th magnitude were recorded. In a low-power field from a dark sky location, both objects can be seen in the same telescopic field. The Owl Nebula has a low surface brightness, so even in larger apertures, it can be hard to see.
