Messier 1, known as the Crab Nebula, in the constellation Taurus. This is a combination of two exposures of six minutes each with a Nikon D300 set at ISO 1250, through a home-built 8-inch f/6.2 Newtonian telescope on a Losmandy G-11 drive. I used a 1.4x teleconverter, so the effective focal length used for this uncropped image was about 1700mm at f/8.6. The images were layered in Photoshop. It was taken at Harrington Beach State Park on a very frosty March 4, 2010.
