The portraits you will see in this series are of the people and faces I found representative of the people of Havana as I walked the streets of this city - I have fallen under it's spell almost immediately, as so many others had before me...
The general air of friendliness, openness and human warmth was a welcome if unexpected discovery; the Habaneros manage to display those without any loss of dignity and self-respect. A few days spent in the provinces convinced me that these traits are not at all unique to the residents of Havana and in fact are even more impressive outside of the large cities viewed in the context of rather harsh living conditions and hard work of the campesinos in the provinces.
I wish I could do more for the folks in Cuba but for now let this series be a window into their world, the world on the verge of the major change.
