I lived on my father's fishing boat in Vecmilgravis shipyards while it was being repaired for about 2 weeks in the fall of 1983 (just before dear Leonid Iljich passed away, remember the chaos?) I totally fell in love with Vecriga. It was a breathtaking experience for a teen who had been raised among dull, grey 5-storey apartment blocks. Everything was so different - the smells of baked goods drifting out of old shops, cobbled streets, the sound of a new and beautiful language... Even bread tasted different, I loved it. Thanks for this gallery, Aivis.

I visited your beautiful country and Riga last summer. Very friendly people! My father grew up in Riga and he showed me his childhood homes. You can see pictures on my site.
