I much prefer John Cabot than Christopher Columbus. Cabot is the first Genoese to land in North America in 1497 which he claimed for England, the country he was sailing for. Thank you John Cabot !. Columbus only reached a few tiny islands in the Caribbean and it's an outrage that the Americans have Columbus Day. Also I dislike Ferdinand and Isabella for making Spain the first country to set foot in the New World. Does that mean that they should own Newfoundland too ?. Absolutely not !..
